Wow! Talk about progress! The Oooh Hexie Baby! Class is next up to show off photos. It was fun, productive and full of finished pieces. I’m so proud of the students and the progress they made. I always love seeing the different fabrics that are brought to class. And I love that they put the pedal to the metal and worked really hard to get so far with this project. Some of their pieces will grow even more into lap quilts from the wall hangings they started.

They learned how to strip piece a baby block (also called tumbling blocks) with my Hex-a-ma-jig template. The instruction booklet that come with the template includes the basics of this technique. We expanded on a single “block” to create a stack of baby blocks.

Without further ado here are the results….

Alexa’s brights really pop on her navy background!

Deb’s blocks were fun and bright!

Kate Murrell did some fast sewing! She plans to make it larger or put it in the middle of a lap quilt.

Priscilla Haga’s Grunge fabric made for some great dark/medium/light combinations in her blocks! She has more combinations to add.

Sandy DuBois chose to have gray in each block. A mix and repeat of fabrics….but in different medium/light spots….added eye candy for her blocks.

Susan Tempel’s batiks fabrics added a watercolor vibe to her blocks.

Phyllis chose to practice with the same colors combinations of her blocks before she moved on to her other colorways.

Noelle got a head start on cutting her pieced hexies before class. She was determined to get her rows together….and she did later in class!

Sandra’s choice of black and whites were FUN. We had a good discussion about directional fabrics in her blocks.

And look at this beauty! A repeat of colors made for a wonderful arrangement. This will become a pillow cover.

Tips related to some of our class discussion…

#1 – Try new shapes! Many had not worked with hexgons or half hexagon shapes, They loved how easy they went together.

#2 – Do NOT stress about keeping up when taking a class. They ALL got many “blocks” sewn and were well on their way to getting their wall hanging put together.
